Default Tailgate step: do you use it?

If you have the tailgate step, how often do you actually use it to climb into the truck? Do you pull out the hand portion?

I've used it quite a bit but don't use the hand portion.

I use mine all the time too. I'm a bit vertically challenged, so it beats crawling up.

Use it every time I get in the bed, never use the cane. I am tall and athletic enough to jump in without it, but it only takes a second to drop the step down and it feels just natural to step up with it.

I use it all the time. Rather use it than hurt myself doing something stupid like getting my flippie floppy caught on the edge.

I should add that I use both the step and the handle. I have no shame in doing so. I'm approaching 50 and have arthritis in both knees. I don't give a sh*t how it looks.

I wanted the tailgate step because I'm always in and out of my bed, but the truck I got didn't have it. I got the Amp Research Bed Step and am satisfied with it.

Advantages:
- You can use it when the tailgate is closed.
- You can use the bed rail as something to grab on to.
- The tailgate is lighter.

Disadvantages:
- You can see it all the time. It does not tuck under as much as you'd think.
- It's a little tricky getting down. Sometimes easier to just jump down.
- Little pricy.

Overall I would buy it again though and use it every time I get in and out.

Use the step. It's nice.

I recently was on a short scuba trip and getting in and out with gear was made much easier and less of a PITA that way.
