Had the step tailgate added to the build sheet when I ordered my truck in 2020. Thought I would use and appreciate the step, but I don’t. Like the OP states, the trim plates get hung up while sliding things in and out and does pop off on occasion.

Will not be removing mine, but would not order it as an option again. Don’t use it and would rather not have it.
