Tailgate step delete
The solution was remove the step which was useless to me. In my mentioned searching there are many threads across various forums discussing removing the step or swapping tailgates so I'm not alone. Clearly there are also plenty of folks that do like the steps and perhaps dont have issues with them.
Make sense?
I can’t believe so many people are questioning the OP on doing this, it’s his truck and he can do what he likes, he just shared how to do it in case someone else wants to as well. Isn’t that the point of this forum, not judging, just helping.
Well I am going to remove mine too. Sure it’s nice to use but doesn’t sit flush. I also have a gen2 and a go fast camper and it sits so high it wedges my camper hatch in place. I already ordered a non step trim piece. Also glad you found a way to remove the extra torsion bar.
I tried for ever to trade my magnetic step for a non step tailgate. 2 local people i met one at gas station and other at the dump. Both acted like I was trying to scan them. It was a joke trying to convince somebody with a lifted truck that they could use it more than I could in my lowered racetrack. Lol. Finally just took out step and spring. Still heavy AF
As others said, it’s the OP’s truck and he can do as he sees fit.
My 2012 XLT had the “old man step”. At 67, I came to really appreciate it. My 2018 does not and I really miss it.
While I’m in good health, the step and pole made it much easier to get into the bed.
