In 8 years I can not think of a time that I have the button on the door to open the trunk of my car, I alway just grab the handle with the soft touch button.

To be fair, you did mention not seeing a key hole and asked if there was any way to release it manually. I did come across as pretty blunt though, no harm intended. My bad.

Huh? I'm asking if there is a way to unlock it manually. Not a big deal I just thought it was weird. Separate from the interior release issue yes, but it reminded me of the story on reddit (I think) of the guy with the exotic car that couldn't be opened because the battery was dead and there was no way to get inside or access the battery that was in the trunk.

If the truck battery is dead and you need to open the tailgate you just need to use the hard key to open the driver's door, then open the hood, then put battery charger on the battery then push tailgate button.

Slightly off topic but it a) wasn't exotic (C6 Corvette) and b) there was a mechanical emergency release inside the car he just didn't know how to use. It doesn't make it less tragic, just less of a design issue.

Except that my battery charger is in the bed.

So I take it there is no pure manual way to open the electronic tailgates if say the battery is dead?

I think this is a pretty fair question when your battery is dead where is the manual release to your bed tailgate . The reason is you have a hardcover on your bed . That should make sense right? My jumper box with cables is in my bed with a hard cover and a locked tailgate pretty simple I think.

Simply put, my battery jumper is in the locked bed

Designed by the same genius mind that designed all the door locks, in the same piece of napkin with the ice-cap stain on it...

Hate to bring up an old thread, but this question was never answered. I have a 2018 Platinum, and in my locked bed (with cover) is my jump pack. If I have a dead battery, am I SOL. How can the tailgate be released to retrieve jump back. Sounds like I'm painting a room and began at the door.

It's an old thread but since you asked... In my 2017 owners manual pg 70:
The electronic tailgate release will not operate when:
• The battery voltage is below the minimum operating voltage.
• The vehicle speed is at or above 3 mph (5 km/h).
Sounds like we are all SOL with no power and an electronic tailgate.
