Question Tailgate Piece Missing?

Hi all. Brand new to the forum and looking forward to participating. I am looking at purchasing a 2015 F150 Platinum. The only concerns that I have about this particular truck that I'm considering is that the tailgate doesn't seem to be fully bedlined, and the screws seem to be sticking out. The truck is in transit to me from out of state for final inspection prior to purchase. I was hoping to go into this with some knowledge as to why that part isn't lined. From what I can find online, the unlined part is called the "tailgate access panel."

What I'm wondering is:
- Is this truck missing this "tailgate access panel" part? (I'm thinking it's there but needs to be lined)
- Are those screws sticking out because they're the wrong screws? Maybe intended for use with a drop-in liner?
- Does anyone have the Ford part numbers for the tailgate access panel?
- Does anyone have the part number for the correct screws?
- Is it possible to tell what type of bedliner is on here? I'd like to have this piece lined to match.

Thanks everyone!!

The tailgate access panel is the actual panel with the screws sticking out. Looks like it's been replaced. The rest of the bed has a spray in liner on it, the acres panel doesn't. The bed liner is the Ford factory applied liner.

Those screws look like they were holding a drop in liner piece that isn't there.

That is the access panel for the tailgate. Lets you access the back of the handle and the rear emblem (although on a platinum you have that big tailgate cover thing, so not sure how that is attached). Looks like you have the OEM bedliner, so not sure how that is installed, but it should be sprayed separately so you can still remove the access panel if needed. Possible they mistakenly sprayed it and had to cut it out and in the process damaged the original panel? Maybe that's a replacement access panel. Those look like the right screws, just not tightened down all the way (believe they are T25 Torx). The OEM sprays are sourced locally by the dealers in some cases and in other cases they are sprayed by Ford. Hard to say. Might want to ask the dealership that shipped it to see if they know.

Yeah, that's messed up. I'd say it was damaged and replaced and needs to be sprayed.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm getting it from Carmax and the best explanation they could come up with was that it was the previous owner's preference. So I'm thinking that I'll have to see if the local Ford dealer would bedline that piece, right? And possibly replace the screws?

Looks like the screws you have were for the drop in liner. Check out this thread for the right screws. https://www.f150forum.com/showthread...errerid=231537. The Ford Part number is W717563S45. I had to order a set of them when I took out my drop in liner and put a bedrug in

Previous owners preference? That’s the best they got? Probably damaged. Cheap of them not to at least try and get it lined to match.

Owner preference...? Seems like that would be a tough request of the assembly line regardless if it was a special order

If your truck has the tailgate step.
Previous owner had Oem bedliner sprayed in. Sometime in his ownership decided he doesnt like the Tailgate step >Handle<. As some dont like it.
Removed tailgate grab handle and replaced with the proper panel. Just get it sprayed to match.

Thanks for the comment Johnny. Doesn't the handle come out the same spot as the step on 15s and newer, though? I'm new to these trucks
