Default Tailgate lock

I just purchased a 2017 f150xl. No power locks. Plain Jane work truck. It has a lock on the tailgate and the door-ignition key goes in it but won’t turn. Same with the spare key. Just a bad cylinder or does it take a different key that I was not given. Thanks

Is it the mcgard aftermarket lock? A pic would be great
Edit: I guess I misread, is this the lock to keep the tailgate closed, or the lock some install to keep tailgate from getting stolen?

From the factory, the tailgate lock was keyed to your ignition key. Might be a bad cylinder, or it might have been replaced at some point with a different key.

I sprayed WD-40 in it and it finally started to work with door key. Guess the previous owner didn’t lock it. Thanks for the help

Use lock lube on locks. WD-40 gets sticky when it dries and makes the pins stick, which may be how your lock got messed up.

Obligatory "WD-40 is not a lubricant" post... yes there are better options.
