I have a tailgate that locks and unlocks with the truck remote, and a manual handle to open. It seems that when the truck is in the sun the tailgate doesn't unlock with the rest of the truck. Yet when it cools it unlocks just fine. Is there something I can do? Is the device wearing out or does it just heat up too much and need to cool off?

 

This has been happening to me for 2 years now. I have some luck with it unlocking if I play with the handle while pressing unlock I can sometimes find the right position that puts enough pressure on the mechanism to open up. If I don't have to get in I just wait for it to cool off.

I'm not sure if there has ever been a fix. I did read once that replacing the actuator helped but I don't know if that fixed it long term.

 

Any luck with this issue? I seem to be having the same problem. It would be nice to find an aftermarket replacement actuator that is built better. I’m currently locked out of my bed since I have a tonneau cover and can’t unlock the tailgate.
