Default Tailgate emblem

I have some hand painted black emblems that have begun to chip and have been trying to find replacements, but apparently the 9.5” size is hard to source, all I’ve been able to find are 9” ones.

I’d prefer black plastic so I don’t have to worry about chipping in the future. I’ve also come across overlays, which might be an option?

Looking for what others have done to blackout their tail gate emblems, appreciate the help!

ya that’s what I have now, matte background with gloss letters and outline. The gloss has been chipping and looks like ****. I’ve tried touch up paint, but it doesn’t last long in the car wash.

dang.. was wondering if heavy tint might work. Might just end up spraying them. I’m guessing it won’t look nearly as good as the hand painted.

is there anyone on the form that still does hand painted?

This comes up periodically. There was (and may still be) a forum member who did this line of work, but I can't recall the name. On eBay there is joe1966fairlane. I have his work on my truck and I've had good success with them, YMMV. I was a little surprised to hear that your tailgate emblem is chipping. Is that due to the car wash, specifically? I get why grille emblems would chip due to road debris. I wish you well in your pursuit and hopefully someone will recall which forum member did this. There are also YT videos showing how to take them apart to paint them yourself.
