Ford here as well. Simple installation using two sawhorses and a blanket. Works great and hidden, unlike some of the competitor's versions. Purchased as a unit at Tasca Ford.

Dampening vs. damping. I thought this was a thread on how to keep my tailgate dry.

I have the OEM damper on my '18 F150 with tailgate step, and a Dee Zee on my '09 Chevy 1500.
My experience is the Ford unit is obviously more thought out and engineered quality unit. My beef with it in my application is that while it lowers 90% of the way nicely at an appropriate pace, the last 10% sorta free falls with a short thunk to the bottom.
The Dee Zee on my Chevy has more overall dampening though out the stroke and can be kinda slow at times, it does however end softly without any last minute drama.
I'm actually considering putting a Dee Zee on the left side of my bed now and hoping it'll open before Christmas, softly. LOL
