Default tailgate dampening/assist

Hi Gents,

I don't have tailgate damper with my XLT model so sometime it is not easy for my wife to open the tailgate and drop it. It is quite heavy for ladies.

So I am wondering if I can install tailgate damper or assist. I googled it and found two.

1. this is from Ford parts website
https://accessories.ford.ca/damper-asy.html

2. this is from amazon.
Amazon Amazon

I am wondering if anyone here has experience installing these. which one will be easier to install and better to use?

Thanks

I have the Dee Zee and it works well. Make sure you order the right one for your truck.

The Dee Zee is a no-brainer.

I installed mine right after I bought my truck. It seriously took 10 minutes tops. It works exactly as advertised.

My only recommendation with the Dee Zee is to paint the bracket black before you install it. It really does make a difference.

I just installed mine last week. It works as expected. My advice is to look under the truck and see if you have the hinge that will accept the pump/ram. That way, you won't order both. I ordered both the hinge and ram, and I didn't need the hinge. I was able to pull my light, and install the ram. Done.

I am unsure if you can only buy the ram, but I don't know why you couldn't.

You need to remove the tailgate to install it, correct?

Yes. You have to remove the tail gate and right tail light. Then replace the hinge on the right side. Pretty easy really.
