Default tailgate cable strap

On my 2017SC Lariat my tailgate straps are very different lengths. Not even close. The dealer shop foreman says these are just "safety straps and really do nothing" So I asked him if I took both of these off would the tailgate hit the bumper and he replied NO! ???
Their parts dept quoted me $102.

I have a loose one as well. It looks to be about 1/2" shorter than the other. Is that $102 for a single cable?

Mine is loose on 1 side, I suppose we could all measure our cables and do a swap with members to get matching sets!

Most, if not all cables are like that. Throughout all manufacturers. I worked at dealerships for years. Replaced hundreds of these because of complaints like yours. I put 5 sets on 1 truck once because the customer wouldn't believe me. Always ends the same. One has slack. I had to bring him to our over flow lot with a bunch of brand new, right off the transport, trucks. Every one had 1 cable with slack

Not wanting to unscrew them from the tailgate, i measured length of both the best i could and they appear to be the same.
The tailgate in closed position seems just a tad higher on the right side where the loose cable is

My passenger side cable is really loose. I believe the cables are the same length. Seems as if the tailgate itself is not comepltetly flat.

Common issue. It’s fine.
