Question Tailgate bend from Quad

In my 2013 I noticed when I sold it that the portion where the ATV wheels went over was a little warped. I have a polaris 500 ho so it pretty common. Anyone see this and is there anything your doing to your tailgates to prevent it.

I would think a diamond plate sheet of steel made for your back tailgate and the lip would mitigate the issue, I never had an issue with getting quads in and out of other trucks.

I have had my Grizzly 700 in the back of mine several times and haven't noticed anything bending but there is all kinds of popping coming from the bed of the truck when I drive it up in there. I am thinking maybe it's the glue they used on it.

Whenever I've moved anything like a wheeler or mower that extended onto the tailgate, I put 2x12's (7ft long) under the wheels, with most of the weight on the boards near the cab and a couple small pieces of 1/2" plywood I use as shims at the back of the bed, right before the tailgate it keeps all the weight off the tailgate.

if I need to move anything that the wheels wouldn't be on the 7ft long boards, I use a trailer. If I had the longer bed I'd have gone with 8ft boards.

Default Tailgate bend from Quad

I worried about mine because the tailgate is so long, I have a screw short bed and loaded my sportsman 800efi no problem. This tailgate is stronger than it feels. According to Polaris mine weighs just under 800lbs. I didn't drive it anywhere to speak of yet while loaded just wanted to try it out

I've never worried about it on any truck, and it's never been an issue. I can't believe they'd make a truck that you couldn't load a quad into the bed.

Im not saying the bend was huge but it was definitely noticeable on the 2013 that it had bended where the tires ran.

Shouldn't fear loading a quad on your tailgate, doesn't ford offer factor ramps?

If you think about it your quad weighs probably 700lbs, and depending the length of your ramps you may have a bit more than half of that weight on the ramps with the rest on the ground. I hope you never have two full grown men sit on your tailgate, it might bend!
