Yep, my wife's Explorer did the same thing. Who knows how long that thing sat on the lot without running. I would take it in and have it checked out.

No, your battery is likely not going bad. These trucks have a lot of electronics drawing on the battery, even when you take the key out. Read in your manual about "Battery Saver". Basically it shuts off your radio and other things when it senses it has not been charged enough. Lots of short drives will do it, often does it more in the winter than the summer. There are many, many threads about it. I ended up putting a charger on mine that keeps it floated up, and plug it in when it's in the garage - I sometimes go a week or two without driving, and do a bunch of short 15 minute or less hops.

No problem.

When I got tired of seeing it I bought the Deltran Battery Tender. Ran their extension cable from the battery across the engine compartment and down behind the left headlight, and pokes out the wheel well opening. I pull in, plug in, and that's it. Unplug when I'm leaving, put the cap on the cable, and it sticks back into the opening it came out of. In the winter sometimes it's a bit dirty so I have a rag sitting next to the charger to wipe my hand. Works great, and for a little over $40 I never see the stupid message again.

All the TSB does is reset the level to a lower one, so that the battery gets drained even further before the Battery Saver kicks in. One needs to think carefully about this. Even if you do it, if you do a lot of short hops running the AC or running the heat it will eventually start doing it again, except now your battery will be weaker.
