Default Sync3 Waze Applink for Android? Android Auto?

Maybe dumb question and maybe not even possible to do but... I want to run Waze thru Sync 3 Applink from my Android phone NOT thru Android Auto (don't want to deal with cable pia). Can I or is it not possible?

I cannot seem to get Sync 3 to discover the app on my phone, it's running and Android Auto is uninstalled. Finds FordPass and Pandora, no Waze.

If I need to use Android Auto any suggestions on best way to initiate it? Cable first, start car? AA just has always seemed so fluky starting up. Then when it does Waze seems extra fluky. Then turn the car off to get gas or something and it doesn't restart.

Maybe it's me...

thanks

Waze has always been flakey with Android Auto, has been since it started being supported. It's the same way in our 2017 sonata with AA. I'm hoping it gets better as they update it. But it will not work without a cable. There's only a few apps that work for the applink thing, like Pandora. Somewhere I found a list of supported apps on the Ford owner site before, Google for it. I wish more manufacturers supported wireless AA,it would be much more convenient than connecting the USB cable all the time.i really only connect it for long trips,I just use Spotify through Bluetooth daily.

Waze and Google maps only work through AA and you have to have the phone plugged into the USB cable. A lot of threads on this topics apparently some limitation in bluetooth. You are right however Waze through AA and Sync is flaky. Most of the time it works but sometimes it just is not recognized and I have to unplug the phone and reconnect it to the USB cable. Most of the time this fixes it but on occasion nothing short of turning the truck off and on works. It is very sensitive to the USB connection so get a good cable. I find Google maps to work more reliably.

shellshocked is correct- I messed around with my SYNC 3 system last night, downloaded and installed the SYNC 3 update to work with Waze. Once I was done with all that I realized that the only way to run it was with AA, which takes over my 8" screen, so I lose my factory audio controls on the screen. I wanted to have Waze take over for the factory nav, but leave everything else as factory on the screen. Oh well, maybe after some later updates or something. I just ditched it and went back to using the factory nav.

Thanks, I figgered.

I did my 3.0 update and it does seem like my AA is a bit more stable now. Will use that more and see how I like it.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY to connect/start AA and truck to get a somewhat seamless connection? Plug in phone and start ignition?

Remember your radio is a computer, so I always let it boot up before plugging stuff in. I have left my IPhone also my Samsung plugged in and it didn’t seem to bother it either way.

Edit: wrong tread....

I got the update on June 24th, and can't get the try new AA. I've uninstalled/reinstalled a few times, but all it does is remove the "update". I think this might have to do with my Pixel 3XL shipping with it a a default app.

I love the pictures of the *new* interface, just wish I'd see them on the 8in display.

I couldn't get my phone to update over the last few days. Then saw that there was a sync update. Did the sync update this morning and went through and cleared Android auto data and cache. Went back into the settings and had the toggle. It could have been a coincidence. Just stating what I saw.

Plugged it into my wife's Escape, which didn't have a sync update according to Ford owners and it immediately worked. Then found that sync was updating in the background.

New interface looks great.
