One final quick question: Since I have already done the 2.2 upgrade, is installing the hub a plug & play deal? It will recognize it and add access to carplay?

Thanks!

As soon as I stuck the USB drive in, along the top black bar of the screen, it said: System Upgrading. About the time I pulled onto my street (500 yards from home) it rebooted. As soon as I pulled in, it said: Successful. You may now remove your USB device... or something like that. Per the instructions on the owner's site, I turned off the truck for more than 5 minutes and it was up as 2.2 when I came back later.

I did do a system reset before I did it. I don't know if you need to try that or not. Couldn't hurt.

Good luck.

First of all, I am very jealous of your 15 minute commute (45-50 minutes is a good day for me - and I only travel 25 miles ). I was able to update mine on my drive home on Wednesday. Took about 20 minutes. I'm not sure why the first try didn't work, but I'm glad everything went smoothly on the second try.

When I got home I swapped out the USB hub. I used a plastic panel removal tool that I got from Harbor Freight and the old hub popped out easily. When I plugged my iPhone in Sync immediately recognized it and Car Play showed on the screen. So it was a simple plug and play.

Same here... Thanks everyone for your help. Good first impression of the F150 Forum. Perhaps I'll stick around

Are you saying that you pulled the files out of the SyncMyRide folder and left them in the root directory?

I bought a new leftover 16 lariat 2 months ago (man, I love this truck, 5.0!). Been wanting the upgrade, finally oit. I'm not pc savy, but I followed the instructions and got it done. It took about 20 minutes. Had me worried though!? For a long time my navigation said "searching for signal". The next day it was fine. Once I learn how to post a pic, ill show it to ya. Black, got the 502A, I think they call it? LOADED. Thanx for this site too its awesome. Aleady got it leveled too. End of rant, lol....

Not 100% certain if you have to do this step, but I purchased an Onn brand 32Gb USB 2.0 thumb drive from Walmart (think it was like $8) because people had been saying Sync is particular on the thumb drives it likes to read from. When I got it home, I immediately formatted it (not fast format) with exFAT, per the instructions on the main Sync 3 upgrade thread. Once that was done, and that took almost 30min just to format, I copied the Sync 3 v2.2 files directly out of the zipped file, and pasted them in the root of my newly formatted thumb drive.

For some silly reason, Sync 3 didn't like the left side USB port when I initially attempted my upgrade, but moving it to the right side USB port worked without a problem.

Hope that helps!

No... leave the syncmyride folder intact. Just don't put the zipped file on the drive.

Oh no, that wasn't my problem, I did all that part correctly.

I guess I'll try a slow format and see what happens. I'd been quick formatting.

I was using right side port, maybe I'll try the left.
