Default Sync3 updating

I have logged on to ford site to download sync update and when I enter vin it states truck is up to date.
when I check on screen in truck it says version 2.0.
What am I missing. I just purchased it. 2017 4x4 sc 5.0 60k. Now the truck was a Canadian truck, so not sure if it matters.
I have tried over the wifi and after 45min nothing. That why is was trying to download to USB.

Ford's update system is garbage. Assuming you don't care about warranty, you have two options. One, there's a huge thread in this forum detailing one update option. Two, and the option that usually gets a certain few people around here butthurt, is the Cyanlabs Syn3 Updater. It's a GUI-driven tool to build whatever USB sticks you need to update to current.

FYI the two aforementioned update options will bring you up to the latest Sync 3.4 with newer UI than your truck has. I and many others are very happy with it. Took about 30 min of driving around in the truck for it to complete.

You could manually try to pick the latest officially supported version for your year if you want but I don't really think that is necessary...

The Ford update methods are terrible and I would follow tvsjr's suggestions. The amount of fuel wasted for trucks idling trying to download an update from Ford over wifi is just absurd.

If you are eligible for an update, it will take hours over WiFi, minutes at a time when you park your truck where WiFi is in range (your truck's WiFI shuts down shortly after you turn the truck off). Don't know why it's so slow, but that's everyone's experience. Go with the thumb drive.

So I got the factory update to take( using usb) and am now upto 3.0. But want to update the maps. At $140 thinking no.
I tried the cynlabs and everytime i tried to download to usb stick it would freeze up( usb was 120gb flashed before use). One time i stop at 3.5 hrs and the other after 4hrs. So gave up on the cynlabs one.

By download, you mean the automated portion of cyanlabs preparing the usb stick? What does the log say, did it finish downloading the files and is hanging while transferring?
Or do you mean the truck trying to install?

I would try another usb stick. Do you have a 16-32gb you can use?
You shouldn't need to 'flash' (format) it, cyanlabs takes care of this.

Download from computer to the USB. It just hangs up while downloading and never changes. The USB is only a year old and never been used for anything.

Do you want help trying to figure it out?

At the bottom of the cyanlabs window it should have a log for the progress. Does it finish downloading and move to transfering? It might take a long time to download depending on your connection. Copy/paste or screenshot so we can see the log.

Depends how much you use nav, how old your installed maps are, and how quickly your area changes. Even back in the day of paper maps, most people didn't get a new set every year or two.
