The poor reviews are due to the lack of intelligence of the consumer. If you have Sync Connect on your truck, the app provides remote starting and location, plus alarm.

If you don't have Sync Connect, it is basically useless.

I have used both and like both of them for different reasons.
You don't need Ford Pass for Android auto right? I think the app on the phone, when trying to set up the Applink, also tells you that you must disable android auto to use Ford Pass. I don't know why.

I just tried using the Ford Pass with my Sync 3 v2.0 before I start the USB upgrade. I'm not a fan either. The only cool part I saw on it for my 2016 was the actual fuel level in the truck, that was about it. I wasn't able to remote start the truck or remotely lock/unlock the truck from the app as shown in a lot of the Ford Pass videos. So, not worth having all that data, tracking and private information constantly getting transferred around in the back ground for a fuel level on the phone.

Haven't had a failed connection since doing this. Takes at most two minutes.
I just tried the hotspot idea on my phone 15 min ago along with trying the Ford Pass App. I spent about over an hour playing with trying to update the sync over wifi hotspot (on my phone). I'm not a fan of the Ford Pass App, at least with my year truck. It doesn't offer enough cool features, gadgets, etc. to warrant having it. I'd much rather have a fully working and functional android auto where I can use google maps. That would be really sweet.

The Wifi Hotspot didn't work for me. The Sync just kept scanning for updates even with the hotspot (my phone) right on the center console! It never locked onto anything...just kept scanning and scanning.

I'm ready to update using USB ...I hope it fixes my Wifi problems too.

V2.0 never did update WiFi. When I used a USB drive to bring it to V2.2 before V2.3 came out. From V2.2 I could have used WiFi but I didn't have a good signal.

Google maps and Waze work great in it. I have the Nav not sure about the non nav.

I tried the USB update. It didn't work for me. I think I may have fried the USB ports in the process. I posted a couple pictures and my grief on the main Sync 3 thread hoping someone could help steer me in the right direction.

So much for following instructions. I did exactly as the owner.ford website said to do.

I had my 2016 XLT in the dealership for "electrical gremlins". They did a Sync update. Tech said it took them 4 hours to complete.

4 hours!?? Yikes!... Is yours a non nav unit? What version did you have before the update? Did they elaborate on what took so long?

The best way and fastest way is to go to owner.ford.com register and put your Vin in. It has a selection along the top for Sync. Select it and select update Software. Have a 32G USB drive handy. Download it to your laptop. Follow instructions about putting it on USB drive. Put it in the USB port start the truck and sit back for 30or so minutes. Or take a 30 minute drive and let it do its' thing. When it is done put it back on WiFi and try again.

It worked for me Version 2.3 is out now.
Tried this multiple times, I put in the USB drive and nothing happens. I cannot activate the link app either to start my truck via the app. Help!

I upgraded mine to 2.3 last week. The vehicle should be running, but I've done them in the past with it just in the on position. Do that at your own risk. for the 2.3 update, the USB drive has to be formatted with the exFAT file system. It says it needs to be a 32G UBS drive, but I did mine with a 16G drive. My theory there is they are just hoping the 32G drives are USB3 compliant. My 16G drive was USB3 and it worked fine. It took about 35 min to complete

Downloaded the app, never got it to recognize my car and I am not able to start it remotely via the app. Any help?
