SYNC3 problems = APIM replacement and changes I've noticed
2015 F150. My screen went blank. Took the dealer months to even schedule me for an appointment. Said it was Covid related. Said the APIM had to be replaced. After the replacement I picked the truck up after hours and the screen works fine, but the system doesn't recognize the SD card. The dealer says it was working when they finished because if it hadn't been the tech would have noted it wasn't working. Then they said it could be a bad reader because I probably did something like spill a drink on it. The navigation was working before the screen went blank. Now they want me to go back in and they said they'd probably have to replace the SD card reader, and that it couldn't be their fault. What do I do?
The SD card was in the slot like before they made the change. When I started the vehicle the screen in the upper right said, "Insert Nav SD Card" at the top right of the screen. When I removed the card it was the same one that was in the slot previously, A8. I removed the card and replaced it and nothing changed. I removed the card, shut the truck down, opened the door to make sure the power was off, waited over a minute put the card back in and cranked the truck. No change. I did the same thing again, but this time without the card being inserted until after the truck was running and no change. There are two lines in the upper right box. One says, "Where Am I?" and the other says, "Destination." I can't press either as they are dim unlike the other things on screen that you can push.

I took the SD card out of the reader and put it in my computer and my computer could read it. I think the card is fine. To be more specific about the card, I can go in and look at various files. Some I can't open because I don't have the right app/program. For example, under a POI file I can see all of the POI logos they use on the maps. Another file gives me all the state traffic sign outlines.

So I finally got the dealer and since the vehicle is over 36000, they wanted to charge me $100 to ‘reprogram’ the radio. I told them that I was in this dealer two months ago with the same problem and she/he, yep he/she is one of those, anyway, I told her/him that I’m not paying $100 to reprogram the radio that you reprogramed and I reprogramed and the damn this still doesn’t work. She/he conversed with service manager and she/he told me they would assess the radio and get back to me. Hour and half latter, he/she said, “Yep, the APIM is faulty and we’ll order a new one.” I said, “Under warranty right?” He/she said no, it will be covered under your extended warranty. My extended warranty requires ME paying $100. I’m so sick of Ford’s so called warranty. I’ve had so many warranty issues over the past ten years with Ford not standing by their supposed warranty service. If I didn’t want to assume another payment and if there was an excess of vehicles to purchase, I would crap this truck in a New York second. I had a problem with the plastic oil pan in my 2.7 that I had to pay for and eventually the 2.7 blew up and had to be rebuilt which didn’t work and I had to buy another truck to replace it, this time I bought a 5.0. Ford never once offered to REPLACE the engine but rebuilt it instead. The rebuilders F U’ed up the rebuild and it almost caught on fire when I was driving home. They FU’ed the fuel rail and it was leaking gas all over the engine. Ford, eh! They could give a rats *** about their quality.
Less than $500, preprogrammed with my VIN and 45 minutes to install.
