Depends on the phone. It should work on the Moto X series as well as any Android phone running Marshmallow or newer.

By default older versions of Android will open the Voice Dialer rather than Google Now.

On an iPhone 6+, the voice button turns on Siri if you hold it for 3 seconds. With my Note 5, nothing. The only way to access Hello Google is from the phone handset itself. It does work well over bluetooth.

With a Moto X you can activate Google with voice without touching the phone. It's always listening. I just speak and my Moto X will listen and do what I say without touching anything. They have had that since 2013.

I don't have Marshmallow yet, but the audio activation of my Droid Turbo 2 is directly to the phone, not via Sync. I believe Android Auto may help, but it's not out for Sync yet.

"Marshmallow or newer? What's newer?

Someday, when our grandkids will write a history paper about when Sync and Google Now started working together, they will need an accurate record of the account. Thus, this forum will serve as a historical record of all factual accounts of this era of F-150s.

I originally put Android 6.0 or newer(Android 6.0.1 is already in AOSP) but I figured most people know the versions by their code name rather than version number.

You can't activate Moto Voice directly from Sync with our voice but you should able to hold down the voice button on Sync just like Siri.

Does anyone use the android with sync3 yet? Curious if you can just say "hey Google" and it work the same as holding the speak button for 3 seconds to activate iPhone's Siri?

If so, it would seem to me that android would be better since you'd have the same hands free texting ability albeit without having to plug in for apps.

I'm due for a new phone and being able to text hands free is crucial for me.

I went from an Iphone 6 + to a Note 5 a few weeks ago.

Trust me...the iPhone is better with the SYNC system.
