Default Sync 3 w/o navigation

I have a 2017 F150 Lariat Supercrew with Sync 3 and no factory navigation. Would I be able to use the Android Auto app on my phone and be able to view Google maps on my Sync 3 screen?

Yes. I used it until I installed factory Nav.

Thanks to both of you. I'm still trying to figure out how to get Google maps to come up on the display.

You have Android Auto installed on your phone? You need the AA app on your phone. Then plug into the USB, follow the prompts the first time and you should be good to go then.

You can also use Waze as well. Just download the Waze app and when you connect the phone the Waze Icon will show up with Navigation under it.

I have both AA and Waze installed on my phone. I'll try it again tomorrow. Thanks

Well, I tried it again this morning and yes, I am using the USB cable, but still having issues. The task bar at the bottom of the SYNC 3 screen will populate with the "maps" icon as well as an "android auto" icon, but a screen will pop up on the main screen that says "SYNC is unable to initialize Android Auto. Please check device settings." If I press "close" underneath the message, the message along with the maps and AA icons will disappear. If I unplug the USB cable instead of clearing the message, it removes the maps and AA icons as well. It's like my phone is trying to send data to the screen, but a setting in SYNC 3 is preventing it.

Default Update

I finally figured out my problem. Under the Mirrorlink setting on my Android phone, I had not turned on the "connect to car via USB" setting. After doing this, I was able to pair my Google Maps screen with my SYNC 3 display. Now when I get in the truck and plug in the phone with the USB, all of the icons will populate at the bottom of the screen automatically, just as I wanted. I'm happy, especially since I saved money by not getting the factory-installed GPS!
