Default Sync 3 Swap

I have a 2018 Lariat with the 8" Sync 3 system with latest firmware version for the hardware. My father has a 2020 Lariat with the 8" Sync 3 system and his firmware is newer and has more "custom" features that I would like on mine. I downloaded the newest firmware on a jump drive and tried to upload it via the USB ports and I received an error message that the hardware doesn't support it. My father doesn't care about some of the features of his system and only listens to local radio and doesn't even use the Navigation or Sirius radio. Question 1 is, can I force a newer firmware to my system without getting the error message or 2, can I swap the systems between the trucks? Thanks in advance!

Your father's truck has Sync 3.4. Sound like you have Sync 3. The update was mostly aesthetic... when I updated to 3.4 I only recall one or two minor functional changes. You can check to see if your hardware is eligible for any Sync updates at the Ford owner support web site.

Check out cyanlabs.net that's what I use to update mine. You should be able to get the latest version from there including the latest maps if you have navigation. I've used it many times to update and have never had an issue. You will need a Windows computer to download the application and create the flash drive.

NO. I have the Special Edition with Red Trim interior and the 502A Tech Package, Max Tow option and fully loaded. His has the 501A package and smaller engine with less tow capacity...
