Default Sync 3 Navigation Update?

I searched but couldn't find the answer so I'm sorry if I missed it in another thread...

I have an XLT Sport w Sync 3 w navigation...

Just wondering how I update the maps when the time comes... I'm in DFW, so roads change and extend fairly often

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you have to enable wifi on your sync and when there is an update you need to be in wifi range and it does it that way.

Here's the site where you buy new maps when they are available. http://ford.navigation.com

Currently there's nothing available for the Sync 3 systems.

System updates can be done via wifi, but Ford customer service told me map updates will be via USB.

Sync 3 doesn't use an SD Card.

I think he was referring to the link as it takes you to the page to order a new SD card.

That's right, never said it did. It also doesn't have a DVD drive either.

That's only the case if you pick a 2015, which doesn't have the sync3. If you go with a 2016 for the sync3, it says the maps are not available yet. I wouldn't be surprised if the new maps will come out after the software update.

If you pick a 2012 (which had sync2) then you get the maps on DVD. That's how I updated my last truck. It would sit in the driveway running for 1+hours while the maps loaded....

You can't do a software re-write, but I can put you in touch with a guy here in DFW who did a quick change for me to add nav with a new module behind the screen... PM me if you're interested
