Default Sync 3 Disappointments

I have read some of what people have said about Sync 3 and thought "Wow that seems harsh" --- I will however have to agree with some of the "I paid XX dollars for this!?!" type comments. I will however be constrictive hopefully @fordIVTeam will read this. Positives are few - at least the interface is pretty quick...

1) Navigation

This is only a MILD improvement from NAV's I had 7-8 years ago in other cars, the road names are still very old, it calls city roads "rural routes" the detail of the maps is pretty poor - POI searching is difficult and entering addresses in the address bar is very painful.

Ford, go take a look at Waze, and TomTom and some of the most popular NAV packs on the market today (Really, look at Waze) and start there - while I get it that WAZE is an online app, i'm just saying look at the INTERFACE.

This is a major disappointment. Come on Ford! Lead the way here, break away from the normal horrible "factory" nav systems.

2) Audio Delay

USB Audio has a 1-2 second delay, and bluetooth 0.5 - that's great, well, so much for my rear seat entertainment plans, I use iPad and other tablets to keep others entertained - with the audio coming out of the stereo --- for some reason this system - but no other systems i've ever had - have an audio delay that makes this not an option anymore

3) The promise of features that don't work at least in Canada.

Traffic services and most Sirius services don't work here including traffic and weather - but your sales documents - claim we get this

4) Poor Audio System

I actually have the "upgraded" sony audio system - it has basic Low/mid/high adjustments, no graphical EQ, no other audio adjustments. This isn't an upgrade, this is very basic for what's considered an upgrade. The subwoofer is basically there to make up for the very poor performance of the door speakers so it seems. My hyundai has a better sound system.

5) Playlists are out of order

Playlists loaded from my iphone show up alphabetically - and not in the order of the play list - basically it's "shuffle" or nothing

6) "AppLink" does not work well - yet

This is an new feature, so I won't be too hard on it, I tried Glympse because I use it - but it kinda works, then doesn't work, buttons are not reactive, or they are - this might be a Ford issue or a Glympse issue but it's flakey

7) USB ports in the front Tray!?

So that nice fancy tray? It will never close, because I need the USB port in there to be accessible for my phone - so it will just have to live open, instead of looking nicely closed and the light not shining - it's stuck open or crushing the cable when it's kinda closed. Instead why not put the USB in the centre console where there is at least proper cable path

8) No Audio Details in centre cluster

Previous sync versions had this. I liked it. It's gone.

So far - not impressed. CarPlay might bring some better stuff (WAZE isn't offered on Car Play, maybe on Android Auto)

Everything works fine for me, except the apps. They suck. I listen to Pandora all the time. I can't keep it running to save my life with Sync3. Constant problems I never have in my wife's car.

I wish sync 3 was more customizable. Like being able to add your own background. And the ability to skip a source while controlling from the steering wheel, I never listen to A. M. radio except for the 2 seconds when I'm trying to go from my USB music to fm.

Yes, you'll never make everyone happy but what I believe the OP is saying is that for a newer technology truck, Ford is late coming into the game. A lot of technology that should be standard is not. I have the 302A in my truck without NAV as I think its a waste. I always use my smartphone if I ever need GPS; I don't have to pay for a subscription for updated maps as it is free. The sound system is OK at best and I have the non Sony but it fills my needs for audio. There's a lot of things Ford can improve and I hope they do in the near future as I love this truck

I'm hopeful that the bugs with the Sync 3 system will be worked out in the next software update. If I'm not mistaken we're still at V.1.0. I also have high expectations for Android Auto / Car Play when it's made available but time will tell on that.

Personally, I'm completely satisfied with my Nav system. Sync, like every other voice command system I've tried, is a challenge and could stand improvement. A lot of the other complaints listed just seem silly.

Can you customize the main sync 3 screen to display the 4 systems ( Phone, Nav, climate, and media) like on my 2013 sync system? I test drove a 2016 Lariat and could not set up the main screen with the 4 systems displayed.

Go look and play with the dodge Uconnect system. Its miles ahead of Ford. Most of the complaints we have with mft/sync 3 do not exist in Uconnect.

It is really good. Ford's is crap, plain and simple.

I guess I'll have to play around with the Sync 3 in my truck a bit more…
I just leave my phone in the tray with the door closed (I have no need to touch it compared to my previous GM vehicle).
Right now, the only weird things I've noticed is the possible day/night mode -I have to see where the settings are to change defaults (first few days background was light blue, now its in black).

Non Sync 3 related: Sometimes the gear selector shows on the right side of the instrument panel without touching the +/- or Tow/Sport mode switch, other times it's not showing… Is there a way to have it default to on short of hitting the +/- or putting it in M?
