Default SYNC 3 CarPlay Issues: Need Help!

Been searching for days and many hours, many forums, cant get a straight answer.

05/2016 F150 XLT with sync 3. Truck came with version 1.0 and I recently updated successfully to version 3.0 via MyFord website with a thumb drive. Currently shows Version 3.0 Build 18025 on my screen. I upgraded the USB hub (through a genuine eBay supplier) to the Apply CarPlay hub, part no. HC3Z-19A387-B and the hub's engineering number is HC3T-14F014-BC.
I'm using an iPhone 7 with software 11.4 and a new genuine Apple lightening cable (tried others as well).

I cannot get CarPlay to work, and cannot see any settings on the truck to enable/disable it. I plug the phone in and it shows its connected and charging, but nothing else. The Nav icon appears when phone is plugged in and I can use Waze. Ive tried a master reset of both devices.

Went to the dealer thinking I had the wrong USB module and asked them to order one in. It came in and was the exact same as above. So i didn't buy it, because they won't accept a return. The said they've had a few trucks come in wanting this same upgrade, and the truck requires a software update to do it. I thought the only software required was version 2.0 or higher.

Any thoughts or advice would be great! Posted this on a few facebook groups and cant seem to get a solid answer. I hate to buy another hub to try, or worse i hate to get Ford to try and program something and charge me when nothing works.
Thanks.

I used HC3Z-19A387-B. With the Sync 3 update, CarPlay should work. Did you try both USB ports? Any chance you can plug in someone else's iOS device (phone, iPod, iPad)?

On your iPhone, go into Settings > General > CarPlay to see if there's anything there.

I tried a different usb slot and also tried the wife's iPhone 7 and same results. The iPhone CarPlay settings just shows a picture of a steering wheel with the voice command button and a "Available Cars" spinning circle.

There should be a Settings -> Carplay Sync3 screen and you enable your phone. Should work after that point.
