Sync 2 to sync 3 upgrade
Hi I just purchased a 2015 f150 with my ford touch, I recently bought sync 3 and module and had dealer install it but they can’t program my options onto it as it says error my truck should have sync 2. I’ve seen several other people successfully do this, any help on why or what they are doing wrong?
When I switched there was nothing to program. Did the installation and then just adjusted the settings the way anyone else would do them. Never seen an error of any kind.
Yes, somewhere there is a thread but with the dealer having already done the install I'm not to sure how much it's going to help. Hopefully the guys that have been helping will see this and chime in.

The dealer probably tried a component replacement with IDS, which will error out because the hardware is not the same. They are technically not doing anything wrong, as Sync 3 is not a dealer supported "upgrade" for that truck. You are better off buying a compatible OBD adapter and using Forscan to fix the AsBuilt yourself.
I must be an idiot because I have actually been searching for the master thread, and have mostly only found small threads with people asking the question, referencing the big thread. But I can't find it! Can you help me out?
If you aren't familiar with FORScan, read the FORScan tutorial contained in the thread above so you fully understand what you are doing before attempting anything and have the necessary hardware (i.e. ODBII, laptop, etc.) - watch the links to the videos. Once you have a grasp of what FORScan is about try a simple change such as "Driver seatbelt minder status off" as practice... make the change, then revert back to the original values. Do a few more simple changes... again, get comfortable with FORScan.
You'll need to configure your Sync 3 APIM to your vehicles' options... limit your changes to the options that worked before but don't work now with the new APIM - the tutorial contains a link to a spreadsheet and in the spreadsheet is a tab for APIM. If you're new to FORScan, make one change at a time to make it easier to revert if you screw up and keep a track of the original values and the new values. You have the ability to make a bunch of changes at once but figuring out your mistake will be harder. Good luck!
