Sunroof incident. What's my next move?

Lovely day, go to retract the pano and hear a "chunk" sound. Didn't retract. Got out and looked up top, driver side had dropped while passenger side was still even with roof/fixed panel. Eventually I pushed the whole panel down and then pressed the button to open/close. So I have it closed now but have no idea if it's broken or was just stuck and a little nervous to test it out and end up with it stuck open. Is there a way to check without opening? The pictures I've seen posted of plastic pieces broken don't make sense to me, I don't know where to look or if I could even be able to see without opening.

No warranty so I'm rightfully terrified of messing things up. Ordered the Krytox for the future, but any pointers on what to do now? Think something broke or the seal just got stuck? Not sure which way the odds favor.

ETA: I opened/closed it fine the day before this incident.

Lots of documentation on the roof.

Funny to read the ones who find the roof is expensive to fix. Yeapo people, if you put 36,000 in one month, you out of luck from than on.
the 3 years is zip, nada, no way !!!!!! say fix it, or seal it up, or trade off for a non sunroof model

Or get an ESP to cover it as long as you plan on owning the truck.

That's what I did.

It’s definitely broken, don’t open it again until you’re ready to fix it. That’s exactly what happened when mine brok. Mine has broken three times. 2/3 I got it shut, last time even the dealer couldn’t shut it and had to keep it inside for 2 weeks waiting for parts while I got a free rental. I got the ESP after the first time because I knew I had a bad moon roof.

Luckily the last time they replaced the entire moon roof(minus the glass). It sounds better then it ever did. Ford dealer told me they are only the third version of all the parts.

I don't understand what you're saying. I have a used truck that was new to me beyond the warranty miles. Your post isn't too helpful or relevant to my question. Almost reads like you are reveling in my truck problems.

You have to lube the seal frequently (the main one between the glass) or it will stick bad, then cause other things to fail. a little dilectric grease along the joint between the 2 go a long way to help prevent issues.

Same Symptoms

I just had the same symptoms with my truck four days ago. The motor made a grinding noise, the glass panel corner on the passenger side dipped, and the driver side stayed level. At the dealers yesterday. Diagnosed with a broken track, bad motor, and deteriorated belt(?). Repair estimate was almost 3K. I am very fortunate that I got an extended warranty when I purchased the vehicle. The repair is covered, so I only have the deductible. This repair has paid for the cost of the coverage. The decision to purchase the coverage is an individual one. Since these are complex vehicles with a heavy reliance on electronics, I felt that the insurance policy of an extended warranty made sense. My truck is a 2016 Lariat, and had 39,000 miles when I purchased. I know to many people that have bought high end used vehicles who have had mechanical problems occur. I normally would not buy the extended warranty on new appliances, TV's or electronics, but when it's a really costly item like the F150, it made sense. I wish you luck with your truck.

What kind of extended warranty did you purchase at 39,000 miles?

Youtube is your friend here. It shows how to repair and what part needed.

Extended Warranty

I bought my truck from a Chevy dealer. It is a leased Canadian vehicle that was sold at Auction to the dealer. When I was closing my deal, they offered a plan from Ally auto called Major Guard Premier Protection. The dealership owner explained to me that it was a subsidiary company of Ally Financial. Ally was formally a GM entity before the GM bankruptcy. Incidentally I did not finance thru Ally. I chose the dealer because they had the vehicle with the equipment I was looking for, and the local Ford dealers could not locate what I wanted, or were to pricey.

Thanks for asking.

THANKS for sharing that Video Cobrakey! It doesn't look all that difficult for a good back-yard mechanic to fix his own sunroof. Just time and patience!

I think what breaks them, is the sun roof sticking when you first try to open it, putting too much pressure on the slide bars/ramps... and keeping it clean and lubed should help prevent that.
