Default Subwoofer Installation Experience

So just finished up my subwoofer installation and thought I'd share in case it is helpful to anyone. This was my firsr phase in my sound system upgrade, with future phase including DSP, speaker upgrades and higher quality 5 channel amp install. My first priority was to get some low end, so started with the sub. Goals were 10" sub behind the seat to preserve under seat storage and keep the rear seat fold up function. I choose the Pioneer UD-SW250T enclosure (3 3/8" deep at top 4 3/8"deep at base) with the Pioneer TS-SW2502S4 shallow mount 10" sub. Bought a cheap $40 Boss mono amp to power it until I pickup the new 5 channel. I found I needed cut out the carpet and insulation to get adequate depth for the seat to fold up freely. I also was not excited about drilling into the rear wall and the rear seat mount bolts were in the way on the floor, so I cut a 2x4 to fit and drilled it so the seat bolts would tight into the 2x4 to hold it fixed. I covered the bolts with some bike inner tube to reduce vibration and for a tight fit and hammered the 2x4 into place as my mounting surface for the sub enclosure. Cut some alum angle for the amp and mounted that to the 2x4 and a section to side of the sub enclosure to secure the amp. Tapped rear speaker leads in B pillars and ran amp power feed on driverside through large rubber grommet into engine compartment then to battery. Grounded amp at the rear seat latch bolt. Overall easy install and love the new low end bass. Seat folds up for fold flat storage, but at the latch point the seat back does just touch the elevated plastic ring around the woofer so I would not try to hammer the sub with the rear seat up. I'm 95% happy, just would prefer an extra 1/2 inch of clearance back there, but still happy the seat folds up freely for the rear flat storage use.

You'd need a line output converter which taps the factory speaker terminals and converts it to an RCA signal. Or, you get an amp with built in line level inputs and just directly tap the OE speakers.

I was you 6 months ago.

This is your friend - http://www.audiocontrol.com/car-audi...-upgrade/lc6i/

It works fantastic. Make sure and use speed wire for your wires from behind your radio to the LC6i. https://www.bigboxlive.com/stinger-s...0ft-roll-black

Nice work squeezing that sub in there, but bottom line is there really isn't room for even a shallow mount sub in there.

I would use this for your line output converter. It has 4 channels and also has a remote 12v output. All you need to do is supply a constant 12v from the battery and it will "turn on" your amp whenever the unit gets an audio signal. You can mount it right next to your amp and you don't have to open the stereo at all. Just tap into the two rear door speakers and you're good to go!! They also have a 2 channel one too for subwoofers.

Awesome, thanks for posting this! This exactly what I've been wanting to do but I didn't know if there was a sub box slim enough to fit and allow the seat to be folded up. This is next on my list.

FYI I picked up the enclosure on Ebay for $51, sub for $79 and amp for $44, power wire and fuse holder with fuse $30, so total cost was right at $204.

I made a custom storage box for under the seat. And I was planning on getting the down firing box that pioneer has with that 10". But I keep seeing different demensions, so I don't know if it will work or not. If it doesn't, I'm going to have to steal your idea. Haha
