Default Strange Issue

2016 5.0 4x4 Screw with 5200 miles.

Very intermittent issue, only happened about 3 times total.

When the truck is cold in the mornings, I start it up and let it "idle down" before backing up to turn down my driveway. When the "issue" happens, the truck feels like it is in 4x4 while backing up, kind of skipping across the pavement. Then while going down my driveway, approx 400', it acts as if something is grabbing, almost like a caliper is sticking. No grinding noises or anything, just an occasional click or pop. I havent had to use 4x4 since I have owned it. When pulling onto the highway, it takes a lot of pedal effort to get it moving, almost again like something is "holding it back."

What could be causing this? It will be useless to take it to the dealer right now. It is very random and I can never get it to replicate.

Hmmmmm.

Could very easily be a brake/caliper that's sticking. If it is the dealer should be able to see that is what the problem is. A warped rotor is not out of the question.

I'd also engage the 4X4 and run it forward several hundred yards and then disengage it.

It sounds to me that the trucks transfer case is stuck in 4wd, or getting stuck in 4wd. Do you have auto 4wd or a manual shift into 4wd? Are your tires all the same size and tread?

XLT, so it is manually shifted in 4x4.
