Pulled out of Costco today and glanced at the speedometer only to see it was reading 70 mph high. Wow, 120 mph at 1400 rpm. I should be able to get a couple hundred miles per gallon out of that.
I pulled up the digital speedo and it was a shade more accurate...
When I got home I switched off the ignition and the speedometer needle dropped down to 70 instead of 0. Happily, I was able to clear it by going into Engineering Test Mode* and letting it run the gauge test. Once all the needles swung to full scale and back, things were fine.
Anyone else ever have something like this?
*= On my 2015, 2.7l XLT, key in, turn to On (without starting engine) while holding the left side OK button until it says "Engineering Test Mode". Then use steering wheel, left side, Down Arrow to get to the gauge test. Then just shut it off after it does its thing. The instructions may be different for you guys with keyless.

The stepper motor that runs the speedo needle might be failing. Happened on damn near every needle on my 2003 Suburban. I ended up having to replace them all one by one on the cluster.

Ya know, I could have gone a few more hours without knowing that.
Crud. If I get it replaced will they be able to program in the correct mileage? (I'm guessing they can after reading Livin's page. That clister swap might be tempting me. Christmas is coming and I've been awfully mostly good.) He has testimonials that say people swapped it in under a half hour. Is it really that easy?

Ha ha ha. This is the place to come if you think you have a good idea and need someone to **** in your mouth.
Or to have someone do that for any reason, really.

It really is that easy. Took me less than 10 minutes to swap and the digital cluster is amazing.
