Default Speaker upgrade

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of upgrading my speaker system on my 18 STX.

I want to use the following:

Front = Polk Audio MM1 Series MM692 - 6x9

Rear = Polk Audio DB6502 300 Watts 6.5 and use the tweeters it comes with in the front. Is this possible.

Let me know what you guys think or suggest. Thank you all and what sub should I use if it's even needed.

I just upgraded my 2020 XLT. Speakers all around. Back-6.5 Infinity Ref 6532ex, Front-6x9 Infinity Ref 9632ix, tweeter-Infinity Ref-375TX. Powered by the Kicker 200.4 amp. I line level and removed eq with Forscan. Big upgrade in sound.

As for using your factory tweeters, see no problem with going with what you want to do. However, I just got tweeter so all speakers are the same brand. As for the center speaker, i had an infinity Ref-3032CFX left over from my 2015 system upgrade. Really did not need to do this since it is not being amped at the moment. Just need to use the spare speaker. lol

Hope this helps.

About 6 months ago I upgraded all of my speakers to Kicker CS series and added the Kicker Hideaway 11HS8 (8" woofer). Cost around $400 with installation. Huge upgrade versus the stock speakers that didn't break the bank.

Welcome to the forum.

I went with Morel Tempo Ultra 6 1/2” components up front and 6 1/2” coax in the back, with a Kicker Key 200.4 amp and a small powered Rockford Fosgate sub behind the seat. Center speaker I just disconnected, as many F150 audio enthusiasts do. Sounds great.

you should check the stereo/audio subforum here: https://www.f150forum.com/f30/
tons of F150 specific audio knowledge and resources there

You're going to want to get a component set for your front speakers, and I HIGHLY recommend getting an aftermarket amp for them.

See, other than lack of low end, I don't think my XLT stock stereo sounds bad...

And I've been putting stereos in my vehicles since high school...

Today's oem base stereos are a lot better than they were when even the generation behind me was in high school, but still don't compare to good aftermarket gear. As good as my 7 speaker XLT sounds, it leaves a lot on the table with just 12w per speaker. The cones sound better than in the past because they are a lot lighter now, but if you look at the specs of speakers even in the the $100/pr price range, you find better efficiency, a flatter frequency curve that does not need the level of filtering our ACM's provide to get the cheap speakers to sound decent, which results in a cleaner, less muddled sound across the full spectrum of the speaker's range.

And if you add bass speakers, you can take the bass load off the smaller speakers, which makes them sound even better.

This is an OEM from a 2019 STX vs a cheap aftermarket upgrade. I guess to some people "not bad" is good enough. IMO they were ****. Just wanted to add I've also been doing this since high school, is that sign of car audio expertise? :P.

ALPINE SPE got all 4 speakers for 120$ shipped off ebay. I also removed the OEM tweeters when I installed these with and amp.

I too am wanting to upgrade the speakers on my 2020 XLT FX4. How big of a job is it and do I need adapter plugs?

I am thinking about this set?

My 'pedigree' is building out audio systems since the early 80's, including designing and building crossovers and voltage regulators, but I'm not so snooty as to call the oem system ****. For the vast majority of people, it sounds great, and they certainly do sound a lot better than they did in even the late 90's when we started seeing more powerful systems with more than four speakers that won many accolades.

Size of the magnet is only part of the story. Shouldn't label a speaker with a small magnet as poor quality anymore than you should label a truck owner 'penile inhibited'. You don't need a huge honkin' chunk of ferromagnet to handle 12w.
