A sort of odd tire question.
OK first off my truck has Goodyear Fortitude HT tires currently. 9/32's tread date code 2022.
Well got a screw in one in the "questionable" zone. About 1" in from the shoulder but not in that "everyone will fix" zone.
Ok soo I've been searching ebay since I don't want to pay $240 for a new tire to match 4yr old tires.
Also considering an all new tire swap with some Sailun Terramax HLT tires from wally world. Seem somewhat equivalent.
Well here is the financial catch and the risks.
i can take a chance on a used Goodyear tire on ebay for like $50-100 depending on date code really and if patched. I wouldn't accept any patched nor older than 2022.
I can get 2 Sailuns installed at wally world for about $260 with the understanding that I'd get the other set in a short period of time but not immediately.
Since the Goodyears have low miles I'd hopefully be able to get ri of them for $50 -$100 a piece. Well not the one with the plug.
I'm having a hard time "trusting" ebay on this though. Which is really the main issue. And oddly I need the OWL (white oulined letters) style which in new is a "premium".
Solid blackwalls can be had for about $200..
As you may have guessed I'm obsessing over this.
Main thing though New Sailun Terramax HLT vs 9/32nd 4 yr old Goodyear Wrangler Fortitude HT?
Thanks for understanding.
Oh yea.. spares a General tire made in 2016. Will need to fix that. Trucks a 2017 I bought used

First, there is no way you are getting that much for used tires. You might get $100 for all of them, not a piece. Second, I would absolutely buy a used tire off ebay before I got some cheap ***, no name tire at Walmart. I have actually bought 3 sets of slightly used tires off ebay over the years, for other vehicles and never had one single issue. I got slightly used Michelins for our RX300 that sees maybe 4k miles a year. I got Bridgestone Duelers for a lifted Grand Cherokee I had for awhile. Then I had got a set of used Nitto Terra Grapplers for another GC we had. Now those were actually only 40 min away from where we live, so I was able to check them out before buying them, but again, zero issues.
I have a complete set of take-off Hankook 275/60r20’s in the basement. The new truck rolled off the transporter and into the service bay for a level and larger tires. I paid $500 for the set. Deals are out there.

I've been pricing ebay tires.. Best ones that aren't ancient ( newer than 2021 ) and have the white letters and have decent tread aren't less than $70 each. Of course that includes shiping.
Odd thing is that there seems to be a premium for that particular size (fords fault..
) What one gets is regionally dependent. And a bit of luck.
A new tire is $250-ish. Checked tread and its 10/32's and only 4 yrs old. New tires are 12/ 32's.

Mine wasn't a screw, but a bolt that was in the place as yours. Every tire place will say it can't be plugged unless it's within the main tread area. Popped into a mom and pop tire shop, 15 y/o son put a plug in it, still running great with 10k more after the plug. That was my new tires with barely 4k on them. Had it also happen on my Silverado, and the plug was even a bit closer to the sidewall, and that plug held for 15k plus.

Guess this is sort of the technical area .
Run it and see if the plug holds. They are more resilient than they get credit for. I've used them in the "not recomended" locations more than several times and one time installed 3 into a very large puncture, and they held without leaks or failure, but, your comfort level is key.
See if someone will patch it from the inside.
