Soot Build-up on Engine
I'm curious if anyone has any leads that may cause this much spot build up on the passenger side of the engine? This is just to the right of the belts. Exhaust leak at the manifold? Apologize for the poor pictures.
Timing cover gasket leak. It probably doesn't even show on the dip stick, its more of a seepage. 12.5 to 13.5 hour job, about $2,800 parts and labor.

Check PCV valve, make sure it is opening/allowing air flow only one way from valve cover into intake manifold. I assume your engine is turbo charged. Leaking PCV valve that allows positive pressure into valve cover will cause oil to get pushed out from seals like valve cover gasket.

Thanks again for the help. I was told by the dealer service department that the front engine cover is leaking oil. $2,800 repair as perfectly estimated in this thread. Not only expensive, but about 6 weeks before their engine tech could look at it.
