Default Sony amplifier

Does any one know if the 700w SONY amplifier actually send more power to the door speakers? Or it is just a simple Subwoofer amplifier?

I think it should be sending more power to all door speakers, however I am surprised to see that the basic stock door speakers and the Sony door speakers are are rated at 25w. Does that mean the Sony amplifier is just a Subwoofer amplifier?

Expert, please help.

I'm sure the 700 is max, so probably 150 rms at best, and yes, it powers the entire system.

It powers all the speakers. I replaced my door speakers with Pioneer TS-A's and the doors shake pretty good now so I would assume there's a decent amount of power coming from the Sony amp. Not as good as a replacement DSP or anything, but pretty impressive.

WOW! How could SONY rate a 150w RMS system 700W!

What is the non-Sony stock RMS ?

Is there a way to measure the amplifier's true RMS as a consumer in a garage with a voltmeter or some thing?

Also, if I disconnect the pillar tweeter, does that send more power to the rest of the speakers?

The pillar tweeters get power from front door's.

Any shop with a AD-1 or SMD AMM-1 can test output wattage.

A lower quality amplifier will have a lower than half of max for its RMS. A good quality amp will be able to produce an rms equal to about 50% of max watts.

There is no way the sony amp is pulling anymore than 150w RMS as the wires are too small of gauge to power it.

Sony home theatre systems are the same. usually rated around 1000w max, but in reality are only about a 200w amp.

The max power is only what it can push out for a quick jolt of power. The 150 watts RMS is consistent. The amplifier will use capacitors to hold the power and build it up to supply up to 700 watts for a quick blast of power. This is why when you turn the bass up and the volume up high you'll notice the volume will start to drown out when the bass hits hard.

Lets give Sony the benefit of the doubt and call their amp a 200 watt RMS amp, in that case its pretty decent, you're not going to find anything like that in the majority of stock stereos.

Thanks. Does that mean if I remove the pillar tweeters, then the system can send more power to its door speakers ( replaced with after market two way speakers)?

Thanks.

Yes, but that would mess up the sound stage IMO. If you're adding components, use that spot for the new tweeter. I left my factory tweeters for now, upgraded the front doors and center speaker with coaxials.

Not trying to hi jack but couple quick questions. How did the coaxials help the sound over all ? Does it distort anymore then the stock ones since they now have a tweeter added? Did the bass In the doors improve at all? Thanks, I have some old Polk db 6x9 hanging around from a old truck that I could install if they fit and if it doesn't make it worse since I don't think I would upgrade the amp.

BTW, I'm sure I could find it but since I'm asking what size is the center? Thanks
