Sometimes won't downshift into 1st when coming to stop

Hello ardavis_yamor, I took my truck to the dealership for two recalls that were unrelated to this transmission issue. While there, I mentioned the transmission problem to them. Either they didn't have the time or the needed parts to work on the issue, they did, however, look at it. They didn't tell me how they identified the problem, but the shop manager seemed pretty confident that he identified a problem. A problem in the valve body was all that he told me. I will get as much information as I can, including how they identified the issue after my service work is finished on the 15th.
My truck probably does this one out of five times when leaving the house. I am in the same boat as you in regards to a precarious situation when entering the highway. Blind turn requires potential hard acceleration. Without the whole shut down routine to reset it, the transmission, when forced to downshift under hard pedal pressure, is really delayed and abrupt. It jars the truck and makes a pretty unhealthy sounding shift. A big clunk! Other than this issue. I have to say I am very pleased with this truck. Hope they can fix it.
Thanks for the reply,
Travis

I started documenting as it is occurring more often now. My Ford Dealer, Newberg Ford in Oregon, tells me to call Ford because they can do nothing without a diag code. Of course Ford tells me to go back and work with dealer. So, I am getting no where and my warranty will run out soon. Has anyone had any luck getting this resolved?
Here is my log.
2-13-2019, 9:15, 37 degrees.
First start in morning. Outside, backed out and went down, no passengers. Remote start, warm up about 5 minutes. Down drive, stick in 3rd. Shift in park goes back to 5th, down to 3rd. Manual goes right to 3rd, cannot shift down. Sport mode didn't help. Turn off truck is only way to get into 1st
4-18-2019, 7:30am, 40 degrees.
First start in morning. Outside, coasting down my 8-10% grade driveway for ½ mile. Rough shifting (tranny bump) midway down, it goes into 3rd and then 5th, stayed in 5th as I coast down. Made a full stop at bottom it stays in 3rd. Shifted to park and reverse then back to drive, it always goes 1st, 5th, then 3rd. Never goes back to into first unless I turn off the truck and restart. This time I floored it and headed out on hwy 47 and it roughly shifted down to 2nd and then shifted fine from there on.
5-17-2019, 7:30, 48 degrees. A little different, stuck in 4th, goes in 1st but won’t shift after.
First start in morning. Back out of garage, first trip of day, Down drive, stuck in 4th. Park to drive, no change. Reverse for 5 ft and drive then goes to 1st. Pull out and won't shift out of 1st until acceleration a out 50 ft.

50 degrees, back out of garage, first trip of day, Down drive, stuck in 4th. Park to drive, no change. Reverse for 5 ft and drive then goes to 1st. Pull out and won't shift out of 1st until acceleration a out 50 ft.

1-800-392-3673, 6 (other), 6 (other), to get a real person. Have your make, model, and VIN # available and make sure you call within 30 days of your last 'attempted' fix at the ford dealership. Otherwise, they will give you temporary case number and you have to go back in for another failed service attempt to get it escalated. I am now in the process of scheduling another "no code, no duplication, no solution" service to get it escalated and get a permanent case number.

First start in morning. Back out of garage. Sit for 3-5 minutes. Back out and coast down 8-10% grade driveway for ½ mile. Rough shifting (tranny bump) midway down, it goes into 3rd and then 5th, stayed in 5th as I coast down. Made a full stop at bottom it stays in 3rd. Shifted to park and reverse then back to drive, it always goes 1st, 5th, than 3rd. Had to floor it. Headed out on dry pavement on hwy 47, it skidded sideways a bit and roughly shifted down to 2nd and then shifted fine from there on. Gladly is was not wet this morning or it would have unsafely slid into other lane.

Update: Ford has escalated problem and my truck is back in the shop (6th visit) at their request. It has been in the shop for 4 days now, no codes of course. The dealer cannot reproduce so we are not making any progress. I asked them to consult with the service department at Morgantown where they fixed the issue with something in the valve body. Has anyone else been successful resolving this issue other then Travis in West Virginia?

Nope, still happens about once a month. They cannot reproduce so they cannot work on a fix for me. Will not even try anything without a diag code and they cannot loan me a diagnostic tool for 2-4 weeks to capture because they say it cost too much and they only have one. I asked them to borrow from Ford factory but for some reason that is not an option. It's escalated with Ford and I am trying to get it resolved before my warranty runs out. Funny how a $3000 diagnostic tool is standing in the way of fixing my $50K+ truck. I am not a happy customer and regret buying this truck. Oh, by the way, do you live on a hill? How often does this happen to you?
