I always leave my bumper hitch in. I even plasti dipped the ball red, so the inattentive drivers behind me have no excuse for hitting it.

I know Ford owners are not so inconsiderate to keep their trailer hitches on whether they are using it or not.
Doesn't seem to be just a small piece. Looks like it's one big piece almost the width of the bumper. May have to hit up some junkyards. Ford probably wants an arm and leg for a new piece.
Just replaced mine not long ago was about 35 bux or so from tasca!! Cheap fix I think road debris got mine still not sure how it happened (I'm from Texas too ) see a trend here! Lol

Bingo!
With my XJ, I leave the hook in the receiver and with my F150 and Trailhawk i leave the D rings in the receiver all with lockable pins..
I had two instances of people ramming into the rear of my vehicles with no damage to my vehicles but the with the rammers, thats a different story.
So far no one has rammed into the back of my F150, knock on wood.

I think we can all agree there are 2 kinds of IDIOTS identified in this post, the ones who ride your *** and get what they deserve and the ones who use the touch method when backing up. Having your receiver permanently installed in your hitch is irrelevant.

That especially goes for idiots who ride your *** in slippery snowy weather.

The one rear ender i mentioned above was in snowy slippery road conditions at a red light..
That was in my old Jeep Patriot which survived with not even a scratch.
The vehicle that slid into me, well it had extensive damage to the bumper and grill from the hook in my receiver..
I asked if they wanted me to call the police for an accident report.
'Nope thats ok'...probably didn't have insurance or driving on a suspended license.
So i drove away fat dumb and happy!

yeah this sounds crazy ... i've been driving for a very long long time and never once have i ever been bumped while driving .. i'm just curious of the driving style to be constantly bumped gently and a truck at that where most people shy away from trucks

What does a parking lot have to do with it? I have reverse sensors and a camera so I don't back into any one.
