Default Software question

On a 2016 Sync 3 vehicle, does the Sync software control both the 8" center screen and also the 8" cluster screen? Is it all driven by the Sync software or is there some separate software aside from Sync that handles the cluster screen? just curious, when a Sync update comes out, what it can affect.

And, if the answer is that there is separate software for the cluster screen, is that only possible to be updated by the dealer? How do we know if there is a Sync or other software update available? I can't find anything on the owner site about that.

Great question.

I don't believe the productivity screen in the instrument cluster is related to/powered by the Sync system. My impression is that the productivity screen "talks" to the sync 3 API, at most.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree - when Sync spontaneously has a brainfart and reboots (they call it 'Maintenance', lol), the Productivity screen keeps right on working.

Thank the Imaginary Friend that it ISN'T a subsystem of Sync

Cheers!
