Default soft paint, just ruby red or all??

i have a 16 ruby red truck. i swear the paint is on this thing scratches easier than anything i ever owned. i had a 08, 04, etc... many other year f150s, and this one if u barely bump it there will be a scratch down to the primer. for example... i was washing it over the weekend and i dropped my car washing brush on it (which is plastic) it left a scratch....... its very aggravating. are all the trucks like this or just the red ones?

My 2015 Tuxedo Black seems very resistant to scratching, but I seem to be collecting more rocks chips than any of my past vehicles. With 12k miles I now have three on my lower doors, one on the roof and two on the hood near the windshield - none on the front though, oddly enough.

Ruby red here and I don't know what's up either but with 12k my bumper looks like a 1999.

i actually had a chip flake off right around fog light from just a wax applicator pad by hand. Quite a few across the front of hood too. I need to buy some touch up and fix them to at least cover primer but they are all chipped down to gray primer or the basecoat..not sure which it is

Okay so I guess the paint quality is crappy. My truck has 14k miles on it. It has a handle full of scratches and chips. Its a darn shame for a 40k truck to be so delicate.

$40k is the new normal when it comes to trucks. You can spec out a F150 (non-Raptor) close to $70k MSRP so that would make $40k closer to just an everyday run of the mill F150. At the end of the day all F150s are Fords and Ford is not a premium brand, even the $70K F150s. Yes $40k is a lot but it is not necessarily a lot for a truck in comparison. I agree it does suck and it shouldn't happen but it does. Can you imagine how people that pay $70k feel since they have the same paint as a $40k F150?

There might be something to this color pigment/durability question.... My poor Blue Jeans truck has been washed maybe 5 times at best in over 2 years, and never waxed (I lease, OK..), but yet it still shines great after I do wash it, always amazes me! And only one chip in the hood. Scratches are also few and far between.

It may be that some colors are more delicate. Have only had my Blue Jeans '16' for 13 months and have not noticed a chip yet. Far better than the Tacoma I traded for it. A little bit of work to keep it clean, but I love it.

Did you wax it when it was new?

I never wax a brand new vehicle for at least a couple months in order to let the paint totally cure. Wash yes with auto soap only, but not wax
IMO, applying wax on relatively fresh paint will likely hasten the curing process.

My '16 is magnetic with no scratches or chips.

Ford has never been known for having the greatest factory paint jobs.

Mine is a 16 with 34000km, front end looks more like 200000km.

Soft I would say, holy man.
