Default Snow plow prep package

I tried talking to a couple sales persons at different dealers but couldn't get an educated answer. This might be a stupid question, but I am mechanically incompetent.

The snow plow prep package costs $50 when building an F150. I'm guessing its not much more than a wire or two. I am having a heck of a time finding a truck with all my options and removing the snow plow prep increases my selection. I really don't want to have to order a truck.

Could I still hook up a plow and use it on an F150 without the snow prep?

Have you talked to a snow plow dealer? As far as I know the prep package has a dedicated button that powers down some features so you have more electricity to power the plow and it also leaves a power wire to connect to for the plows addon harness. Other than that there is nothing really special about it.

Just to be clear, an F-150 equipped with this package is intended for personal plowing and very light duty. Commercial plowing with an F-150 is highly discouraged.

I actually looked specifically for one that had the plow option in it for our driveway, but one thing I was disappointed with is that you cannot get the technology package if you get the plow option; as a first time truck owner the 360 camera was a really enticing option that I had to give up.

It's just a power switch for the plow controller. Also when that switch is on, it cuts power to the heated seats etc if you have them.

Mine doesn't have the plow package, it's not available with the base 3.5. No idea why, it's not turbo and has plenty of power to push snow.

You don't need the plow package to plow. Just turn off the heated seats and things like that.

Don't put a plow on an ecoboost truck, it blocks the intercooler.

I have a boss htx plow. I have about an 1/8 mile of driveway and it does fine. I do another similar driveway sometimes in bigger storms too. Once I had to plow part of the lot at work. It did that fine too actually although a super duty is really better for lots.

Don't believe the light duty stuff, this truck with good tires plows well and doesn't struggle.

I also was under the understanding that it cut power to accessories like heated seats so have optimum power for plow But I was also told by a salesman that its does SOMETHING to help with the steering... or keep from buring up the electric steering pump or something like that. I dont have the option and have a fisher plow and all seems to work just fine so far.....I have had only for 1 season so far but for light duty been perfect to date with the package. I would ask for sure what it does and make the call on your own...but again I haerd somethng about allowing steering to last longer supposedly.

hmm never thought about the EB aspect, so you would have to remove the plow all the time... that would suck lol. Although driving around with the plow on the front all the time isn't a great idea anyways, unless it a short trip.

You can have your plow dealer install the needed wires and controls. My old man does this on his SuperDuty. Never adds the snow plow prep package

I had a snow plow prep package on my F-250 and it consisted of heavier rate springs and higher amp rating on the alternator.
