Smartlink....not so smart dealers

If a dealer has no clue tell them to visit www.smartlinkinstallationinstructions.com
If they can login they might get some useful info.

I chatted with Smart Link and at least they could name the one dealer in MA who is signed up for training for it. I am really disgusted with Ford for such a crappy rollout. I have been looking forward to getting this for 18 months and still don't know when I can actually get it installed.

...and you're confusing what any employee makes with what the dealership charges. PW is talking about what the dealership charges to look at the truck. No one at the dealership makes that hourly rate; it would make for a short-lived business model.

Installation is free.
They have 3 plans:
Prepaid (for 2 years). ~ $370 (be aware that dealers have discretion to charge whatever they want on this option!)
Up front and monthly for 2 years: ~$150 upfront, $9.99/month
All monthly for 2 years: $17.99/month
Please be aware, on the monthly plans an early termination fee does apply.

Is this to make the car a hotspot? I was told this is just 3G speeds anyway. My phone has unlimited data and up to 10GB or something as a hotspot. So if I need it for the kids or something I just turn it on my phone. This service is a total waste of money.

Pretty outrageous that Ford Remote Access, the previous solution, which provides remote start, lock / unlock, and "locate" (beeps horn) costs 49.99 a year plus tax as compared to the cost of this.

Yes, Sync Connect comes standard on Lariat 501a or 502a and above. It's free for a certain time once the vehicle has been purchased from new, I think 5 years. One advantage with the app, though, is scheduled starts, notifications for oil changes, recalls, and a bunch other things.
Whether the price justifies the convenience is likely a matter of perspective. The Smart Link can be installed on any Ford vehicle that doesn't have sync connect from 2010-2016.

That's probably because Ford outsourced the Remote Access service to SpinDance and when Ford does the work themselves, they need to make more money because their costs are higher. (I promise that I'm not typing that with a straight face).
