Default Slight hesitation when accelerating?

I have a '17 Platinum with around 7k miles, 3.5 and 10-spd auto. I am noticing a slight hesitation when accelerating and am curious if anyone has seen this or sought a fix. (My truck is currently at the dealer looking at this, and I fully expect a "cannot duplicate" answer as I'll admit the hesitation is quite subtle.)

Scenario: make a slow turn onto a freeway on ramp, and accelerate briskly. Not floored, but close. Or pull out from behind a slow moving vehicle and accelerate briskly to pass. In both cases, as the truck speeds up I notice a slight hesitation throughout the entire time it builds speed. If the truck was a lot older/higher mileage, I might think that something wrong with a plug/wire, or maybe some bad gas -- that kind of hesitation. But more subtle. Have noticed it both in regular and Sport mode, although it is even less noticeable in Sport. FWIW - I have noticed this for quite a while (many tanks of fuel) and I always buy "Top Tier" fuel from the big names and Costco.

I suspect they will try to tell me it's turbo lag ... but that is defiantly not it at all. My '17 is not my first turbo vehicle and I know turbo lag when I feel it!!

It's especially noticeable since we had a '15 F-150, 3.5EB, prior to getting the '17. Never felt this kind of hesitation in 3 years and over 35k miles!!

Thanks in advance.

'Twere it me, I'd be doing some data logging. Things like timing and IATs would be of particular interest.

Add fuel trims and MAP to that list as well. If you really want to get into the weeds look at your torque converter PIDs as well...

I have been experiencing the same things with my truck and I only have 350 miles on it. People are telling me to give it time to "learn" my driving habits. When accelerating at maybe 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, I notice a very inconsistent increase. It would be nice if I could get a linear increase in acceleration. I'm hoping it "learns" or can be adjusted by the TSB for the trans. BTW, I have a 5.0, so it's not turbo lag!

It's most likely the tranny "hunting" for the right gear. With the 10 speeds you jump on it, it could drop 2-3 maybe 4 gears depending on the situation-speeds.

Most likely normal and could possibly get better as it learns with you. Sport mode speeds up the sensing-shifting in the tranny which is why you don't notice it as much.

From what I’ve seen, it’s one of three things:

1: turbo lag as the snails build up pressure

2: 10spd doesn’t shift through each gear, and jumps around a lot so it may just be searching for what gear to hit. Give it time to learn your driving style

3: still hasn’t learned your driving style

i wouldnt worry about it. Happened with my expedition when it was new, and also after I did a pcm relearn on it. Worked itself out

My F-150 does the same thing, i’ve got 6k miles on mine. I have learned this is a bit different than my 07 Tundra 5.7L and just assumed this is the difference i should expect going from my previous vehicle of 11 years to my 2017 F-150.

I’m interested to hear what the dealer says when you give it back. Please PM if you’d prefer not to post the outcome from the dealership.

Thanks.

Did anyone figure out the slight hesitation upon mild acceleration with their 2017 EcoBoost F150? Mine now has 14,000 miles amd it still does it. Kinda feels like when a carburetor loads up then finally clears out- I kno our truck does not have a carburetor but using it to explain my trucks performance.

Default Yes, I too have hesitation and it hasn't gotten better

When I took my 2017 3.5 Ecoboost Sport in for the first (1000 mile?) oil change I expressed my dissatisfaction that it stalled or hesitated for a half second to over a second before it decided to "go". This has been a bit scary as I entered freeways or crossed intersections.
Now I have about five thousand more miles on it and it's due an oil change. Nothing has changed as to the hesitation.
Is there a TSB? I don't know of one.

I know of the TSB 18-2274 that is for rough shifting, which it does some of the time. I'm wondering if this could fix the hesitation, which might be the transmission programming hunting for the best gear to go to. One person said performing the TSB fix made their truck shift like a normal car! That would be great.
Has anyone had the TSB fix cure their hesitation or is their a separate TSB for it?

Have you tried a tank of 93 octane? It you're running 87 it's probably pulling timing and boost to stop detonation.
