Default Shifting Question/Issue

Yesterday I was waiting to pull out of my road, it is at a decent slope, nothing too serious. As I was STOPPED waiting for cars to pass, I looked down to notice that my truck's gear position was shifting from first to second back to first then to fifth and then it was time for me to takeoff. As I gave it gas it was trying to take off in fifth. I had to shift to park then back to drive for it to go back to first gear. This has happened once before where it was trying to take off in fifth and I had to do the same thing. When driving it cycles through the gears just fine and downshifts equally as well. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and possibly has an explanation.

.
Keep in mind the transmission shifts under control instructions from a program.
If it can do that, the source of control signal has to be the cause, not the mechanics of the transmission.

I don't know if you realized but you bumped an almost 3 year old thread with no replies lol.

Thank you, but I see it as some value to others who will see it just from internet searches.
I sometimes bring up my own replies from years back on other boards I have been on.
I do a lot of research to learn and get a larger picture to answer things that are elusive at the present time.
It does not pay to stay limited to the confines of one board for all info.
Thanks again.

@beardedcap i have a 22 tremor with now 7,000mi on it. I'm gonna hit the freeway tonight I'll report back. I ordered one coil from the dealer (they sent plug too) for $30 and some change just to get the part number then I ordered 5 more (DG584) MotorCraft coils from Rock Auto. I think they were $17 or so a piece. All packaging looked the same as the one I got from the dealership. I'll report back after some freeway time I've not gotten a ton of miles on since the new coils yet. All in all I think I'm about $120-130 in to it but if it works great. Hard to believe we would all have bad coils though but it is believable that they aren't fully seated from assembally so we will see.

Default Problem not solved

My brand new 2024 XLT FX4 4x4 does the exact same thing in 8, 9 and 10th gear. The motor and trans have to be warm 183° or better. When truck is cold, driving around town is a breeze, smooth as glass. Go on the highway at speeds of 62 or more and the shudder begins when acceleration is light. Leave off, shudder stops. Been to the dealer twice and was told it's normal. I declined so they road forced balanced the tires on two separate visits. I can't believe I have a 60K new truck that runs like a washing machine on spin cycle!

Shameless bump, any update? just had my TC replaced on my 21 lariat. Was OK for 300 miles, now shudder is back even worse.

No problem for the bump. Sorry to hear your truck is not right. My Problem is still there. I just got back from a trip to upper NY state from FL, driving about 2400 miles round trip mostly on I-95. Vibration seems to come and go and can't pinpoint any exact cause. Dealership says some vibration is normal. Right. Done with Ford.

Yeah, bummer. This is the first time I've really committed to a truck, I don't want to start a new loan or deal with a new truck. I tweaked this one to how I like it. At this point, I feel like I'm just waiting for the transmission to grenade and I'll be on the hook. I've reached out to the dealer so maybe they will help and step in.
