Default Securing tailgate mat options

All, need some options for securing tailgate mat.

2020 XLT with step tailgate. Will be mounting a Black Armour tailgate mat.

Mat measures 59" x 20" X 1/2" thk and weighs 25 pounds, made of recycled tires.

Standard Line-X spray in liner.

1) Industrial Velcro claims to hold up to 10 pounds. So I could glue and apply Velcro strips around perimeter and then several vertical strips thru out the center?

2) Drill and install aluminum nut plates around perimeter, counterbore holes in rubber mat and secure with aluminum screws thru large flat washers?

3) Drill pilot holes around perimeter and use aluminum self tapping screws?

4) Other ideas?

Thanks, Paul

Sorry about pictures; it's late and brain is not 100%.

I wouldn't think velcro would stick reliably to bed liner, but I might be mistaken.

Mark the holes that hold that tailgate panel on onto the rubber mat. Get longer screws and screw them thru the mat, thru the tailgate panel onto the original plastic nuts inside the tailgate.

I would try this method. ^^^ My tailgate protector is attatched with longer access panel screws.

I’m curious. Why do you need the mat?

My experience with Line-X has been great. I never saw a need to protect it as it didn’t get torn up with stuff I hauled. Unless you are just trying to protect the Line-X.

Agree 100% to mechanically fasten, e.g. use screws/bolts. Might want to use all stainless steel, and some fairly large fender washers to spread the load.

Protecting the aluminum sheet metal from heavy objects that if dropped could dent or even tear aluminum.
Plus it's easier on my knees than Line-X.
