Default SecuriCode keypad

Can someone explain to me why Ford kept the SecuriCode keypad entry system on the 2015? With the mykey entry system it seems really redundant. Only possible use I can think of is if you lock your keys in the car.

or if your batteries are dead in the key.. so you dont have to use the key or if you don't have your keys with you but you forgot something in the vehicle i guess. it's handy anyways..

They also went back to the keypad style to permit use with gloves.

Designers and the tech-focused relish the smooth, clean look of capacitive touch controls, but pickup truck owners prefer old-school buttons for the security keypad on the outside of the driver-side door, which is used to unlock the vehicle, among other things. The tactile feedback makes the keypad easier to use when wearing gloves, and it also lets users input a security code by feel if they have trouble seeing it.

It won't let you lock your doors with the key fob inside. On my previous Fords, I liked being able to lock my keys in my truck so I wouldn't have to carry them around. Can't do this with the '15s.

rwerner, do you know if one can lock the doors with the interior door lock (with the key inside) before exiting and simply shut the locked doors?

I know the keypad won't allow this, but I'm wondering about the interior door locks....

If there's a way to lock your keys inside, my wife will find it!

I locked my keys in my 2012 lariat, it won't allow you to lock them in while they are in the ignition, if you forget them in your console or seat you will lock them in.

Incorrect. From manual. No different then my 2012. Use the KEYPAD.

Smart Unlock (If Equipped)
This feature helps to prevent you from locking your intelligent access key inside your vehicle’s passenger compartment or rear cargo area.
If you leave your key in the ignition, when you open the driver door and lock your vehicle with the power door lock control, the doors lock then unlock.
You can still lock your vehicle with the key in the ignition by:
• Using the manual lock on the inside of the door.
• Locking the driver door with a key.
• Using the keyless entry keypad.
• Using the lock button on the remote control.
