I have a 2016 F150 XLT and I'm looking into wiring up a backup camera. I have the plain 2 wire tailgate harness, but next to it is this grey harness with an empty connector. I have checked in the engine compartment on the 2 big grey and black harnesses for where to run the wires to connect a backup camera (port 7,11-14 grey, port 33 black) and they already have wires running to them. My guess is those wires are run to the Grey connector but I'm clueless, seeing how I got the backup camera tailgate harness in and it doesn't fit the grey harness. Pics attached, any info would be greatly appreciated
I have the wiring diagrams for the 2016. If you could tell me the color codes of the wires going into that connector, I should be able to help you out with your endeavor.

I'll try and clean it up some and get a few pics for you tomorrow.

Here are the pics of the wires going into the Grey harness from I assume up from the engine bay. Since the wire ports in the engine bay harnesses for the camera imput are taken up, I can only assume that's what this is for. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This is connector C408. Here are the relevant schematics. Pins 9 to 12 are the wires you need to hook up and run to the rear camera.
The female connector terminals you will need are Molex 33012-2002 or 33012-3002. They are readily available at Digikey and probably other electronics suppliers.
You could also buy the pigtail and use that. Ford JU2J-14B475-ALA (Motorcraft WPT-1551).
Then you will need to run the wires through the connector for the tailgate wiring. That connector uses the same female terminals. The male terminals are Molex 33000-0002 or 33000-1002.

Does this grey C408 harness not just connect to the factory lock/camera/light harness? The Grey harness has this empty connector on it, could you not just swap the tan connector off the cable and pop on the Grey one? Forgive my lack of knowledge, just don't see what the whole point of this harness is if you have to do a ton of hack on wiring to use it, or am I completely misunderstanding what you're saying?
Btw, I have the 4.2" non-touchscreen Empty half of grey harness Tailgate harness for lock/camera Back of both Front of both.

The keys are different. They won't go together. What you have in your hand is a plug or cap. You can add the terminals to that piece as it is a regular connector housing, just no terminals installed and a mat seal with no openings for wires.

I have 5 wires with terminals added to the connector that the original tailgate harness connects to, so it has 7 instead of 2 now (pins 1-5 for camera and 8-9 for lock). I have female terminals I can install into the Grey cap, as I was gonna run those to the 2 connectors in the engine bay, only to find out the camera ports already had wires there. Parts wise I'm pretty sure I have what I need, I guess I just need to know which pins I need to wire up to.
