Default Scratch Repair - Thoughts

Wondering what you all would, or have done to repair a scratch like this? I took it to the dealer and they suggested "brushing it in" but mentioned that I would definitely see the repair. I didn't want to paint the entire door, if I didn't have to though. Has anyone "brushed it in" on the shadow black and can show me what it would look like?

middle of the driver side door.

Thanks all!

Take a look at Dr. Colorchip. It's not worth a full on repair.

I've used Dr. Colorchip for a couple years and it gets things about 75% better.

It wouldn't be a full door repaint, it'd be closer to a 1'x1' square, blended into the factory paint. I wouldn't go with brushing it in, you'll see it, and you'll hate it. When I bought mine there was a chip in the bedside by the tailgate, I'm assuming from someone removing it before, maybe for the spray in bedliner. When I pointed it out they offered to brush it in, and I told them no. They told me I wouldn't see any difference but there's no way. I told them I wanted the stripped and painted in my hometown, they paid for it to happen. All that is to say, don't let them brush it in if you're particular about your truck. Most would be fine with it, but I would always notice.

Awesome, thank you. Do you have any before/after of how it came out?

Thanks again

Touchup paints will show no matter how good you are. I found using basecoat/clearcoat paint, not touchup lacquer, but the actual enamel paint works best, but the minimum amount is usually 1 quart. Since I painted my topper myself I have some leftover of both and was able to do touchups with a fine point brush, touching the tip to the bare area, then wiping any overflow off the surface of the clear, letting the base flash, then some mixed clear, for that I use a pipette to mix 4 drops clear to 1 hardener, and touchup the base. It leaves a slight bubble that can be smoothed out with 2K grit and polish. When done this way it is hardly noticeable, and at times undetectable.

I'm very, very particular about my truck and this is driving me crazy. When I brought it in, they wouldn't let the brush in go...I just know it will be noticeable so I have left the scratch for now. They didn't even mention a 1x1 square blended with factory paint.

Your best bet is to go to a reputable paint and body shop. Most dealers ive seen dont do in house paint and body work and if they do it is done poorly.

Yeah, don't ask the dealer about it. They don't like doing a proper scratch fix for whatever reason. I'd find a reputable body shop and go there, it'll probably be cheaper, and possibly better quality.

Touch up paint done properly (on small scratches with no denting of the metal) will not show, problem is most folks do not apply it properly nor complete the repair process.
