Pretty sure the Outlaw piping is supposed to be all stainless steel.

Well, It is, technically.

Flowmaster uses 409 stainless steel. More expensive companies such as Borla use 304 stainless steel. 409 has a chromium content of 10.50%-11.75% while its nickel content is only .50% which isn't enough to prevent corrosion in northern/cold weather states that use salt (I live in Ohio).

304 stainless has around 20% chromium and 10% nickel in its alloy, therefore it is able to resist rust much better.

I wish I would have known this before. All stainless steel is not the same. And to think there's stainless steel that's even worse than the 409 that flowmasters use. With that being said, I will be swapping out the flowmaster for some sort of Borla system.

No point in worrying about it now. Just go with what you got until its dead. There are paints such as cold galvanizing that might help with the rust.

However, I learned something today if I ever worry about replacing my exhaust. I'm not much into loud exhausts though.

Thanks for the info guys. I got rid of the stock stainless because it sounded really weak. Like i said ill spray it and use it til it isn't usable anymore then replace it with something better.

You can get mild aftermarket exhausts. My buddy just picked up a Gibson exhaust for his super duty and it's not much louder than stock, it just gives it a deeper tone. Sounds great and that's coming from a guy who prefers loud exhausts.

only reason I'd get aftermarket exhaust is if I was getting a tune and could utilize a 4" exhaust to make more power. I've had my share of loud vehicles...I like the quiet.
