So, this isn't about my truck, rather my wifes 2017 Explorer Sport with 31,000 miles on it. I had it washed yesterday and the guy noticed the entire lip of the hood is starting to rust & bubble up. Has anyone experienced this? I want them to replace the entire hood as I feel like the problem is under the paint and I don't want to risk it happening further. I've attached some photos.
VERY common, if you are still under B2B warranty they should cover it for you. They do replace the hood. Its the aluminum corroding underneath and that causes the paint to lift

Wow...thank you for the reply. I'm surprised that it's a very common problem yet they haven't done anything to fix it. Common on the Explorer, or all aluminum? My F-150 is still fine. I may clear bra the new hood if we get it replaced...would that help?

explorer is the worst offender for that, expedition is not too far behind. And no the bra won't help as it starts from under the paint

Are you able to expound on this at all? Us dummies were led to believe stuff like this doesn't happen to aluminum.
Explorers have been very susceptible to this since the 2011 model year. It is caused by poor surface prep prior to paint. Aluminum oxidizes, not rusts. It will still bubble the paint but it would take years before you get a perforation.
Contaminated e coat. Wide spread in the early 00s. Seen this since the beginning of my auto body painting career 20 years ago. Seen it happen with every manufacturer I've worked at the dealer of. So Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Nissan, and Jeep.
Common, but less so these days. Not like 10 years ago any way. I would paint a new hood under warranty at least once a week back then.

just for some clarity, rust is just a slang term for iron oxidation. in steel the iron oxidizes into iron oxide and aluminum will oxidize into aluminum oxide. Metallic aluminium is very reactive with atmospheric oxygen, and a thin passivization layer of aluminium oxide (4 nm thickness) forms on any exposed aluminium surface.This layer protects the metal from further oxidation. You will not get a perforation of aluminum in atmospheric exposure to oxygen no matter how long it is exposed, unlike steel which will perpetually corrode away.
