Just saw this from a local welding shop. 2016 F-150 in Pennsylvania with a rotted frame already. They did a nice job patching it up, but check your frame and get that Fluid Film, Krown, Woolwax, etc. on those frames before they get this bad.
Annual application of Fluid Film, Woolwax, Krown, Surface Shield or any of several other Lanolin-based undercoating products seems to be the best option for us in states that salt the roads. In the spring after the salt is done with, thoroughly wash the underneath the truck and rinse out the frame. Try to avoid allowing dirt and mud to build up inside the frame. That's about all you can do. The lanolin undercoatings do help a great deal.
Ha. If I did that I wouldn’t need a truck. I live on a lake and need the truck to take leaves and garbage to the dump, tow my pontoon and ski boat.
If I moved down south I’d buy a condo, no more yard work, I’d drive a Mustang. But all my kids and grandkids are in Wisconsin, so I’m not going anywhere. I was planning to trade my truck in, in 4-5 years, but if they don’t make V8s then I might want to keep it.
Do people usually apply these coatings themselves or is it better to get the truck up on a lift, and have a professional do it?
