Default Running wire through firewall

I want to run a few power wires and a couple RG-58 coax cables from the cab to the engine compartment on my 2015 Lariat. I noticed there is a large boot type grommet near hood release cable (approximate 3" dia) that is kind of folded over and zip tied on both sides (cab and engine compartment) around a wire harness going through it. Anyone else have any experience in running wires from cab to engine compartment on a 2015? Wonder if I can just clip the zip ties, run my wires/cables through and re - zip tie?

At this point I think everyone's done this! I did it when I installed a couple of subwoofers behind the rear seats, I ran the power wire for the amp through the firewall. It's not hard to do, you can either cut a small slit into the grommet or you can just try and push it through if whatever you have is sharp enough.

The grommet has a double layer, first you get through the cab side the you have to push it through again on the other side.

You could probably just take a flat head screwdriver and push it all the way through both layers then take it out and push your wires through with no problem. Just make sure whatever you use is sharp.

I know they also sell special firewall grommets for pushing your wires through and having a water tight seal, which might be the proper way to do it but you'll be fine if you don't use one.

Yep. I used that grommet. I used a long kitchen knife ( wife is unaware) to cut a little slit then used a long flathead screw driver to pike all the way through. It takes a little elbow grease.
