Rocks and Windshields
Our stock windshield with soundscreen compromises the life of it. How come Ford did not make it as thick as before plus the soundsreen?
My 2015 had one windshield replacement and a repair on the current one.
Also we must keep the right following distance especially for dump truck and other bigger vehicles.
Dump trucks coming off the construction site or from dirt roads and speed up on the highway, that would be scary.

Still have my original windshield, cracked and chipped is ok with me . Although when I received my first chip , about a month after I bought the truck, I wanted to change it out right then ! I fought the urge and of course a couple of months later I received another chip . By the time the 3rd chip showed up and later a chip turned into a crack I realized it was a losing battle . Now several chips and a couple cracks I've resigned to the fact it's Life in Alaska
One thing for sure is...you see far more Ford trucks with cracked windhshields that any other. SOMETHING about the design..who knows? Much like the o.p., I went through several on my 2010...and the new one would get chipped or cracked with months of installation. Eventually the dreaded longitudinal crack across the length of the glass would start, just above the wiper...that was the point I waited for to replace. I always used (supposedly) high quality glass from SAFELIGHT that had all the matching F-150 options, didn't matter...they still cracked.
I had my 2020 less than three month's before the first 'bee's wing' chip appeared...less two thousand miles...sheesh.

First, Ford glass is SoundScreen.
Second, the windshield is an integral part of rollover protection in a crash, and in any crash to protect occupants from debris hits. A crack can weaken the windshield and provide less protection.
Check with you insurer for the cost, if any, for a lower or zero glass deductible. Some states mandate it. Cost should be under $50 a year.

In my experience, I've yet to crack mine since I've owned my truck (51K miles until 78K)....however, my mother-in law (previous owner of my truck) replaced the windshield twice in 50k miles.
